It seems Bollywood has become synonymous with not only entertainment but also drug abuse. When the name Bollywood comes in the mind- name, fame, glamour, and wealth flash through. Most Indians have very strong sentiments for Bollywood movies, actors, and actresses, no wonder they are sometimes worshipped as God and Goddesses by their fan-followings. When the fan-fare has such kind of devotion to the emerging/established celebrities, it is heart-breaking to learn that they are involved in drug addiction. Alcoholism has been prevalent in the Bollywood film industry for a long time, but the norms are gradually shifting towards drug addiction.

It cannot be said why and how these celebrities fall prey to such habits despite knowing the consequences but it may be surmised that depression, peer pressure, or a need to socializing with others lead them to get involved in it. It has been observed that the drug rackets have been actively victimizing the young generation in colleges, pubs, and other social gatherings and also youths in slum areas who, after a long time of addiction, compel to buy drug substances by any means. Now, the influence of narcotics has spread to the elite class for recreation, enjoyment, and socializing in any form whether the usage, possession, or transit. Here are few names of some famous Bollywood celebrities who have been involved in drug cases.

Sanjay Dutt: Son of Bollywood Cinema star and politician, Sunil Dutt, got arrested in a drug case in 1982. He had to remain in a rehabilitation center in the US.

Ranbir Kapoor: The star of the young generation, popularly admired for his romantic roles and comedy, the Bollywood actor confessed in a magazine interview that he would take weed during his acting school days.

Fardeen Khan: In 2001, he got arrested by the Mumbai police for the drug possession case. He got bail with immunity in the drug case in 2001.

Sara Ali khan: After Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, she was questioned by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) with regards to her connection with the drug case which was said to be linked to Sushant’s death.

Gauri Khan: Wife of the King of Bollywood SRK, Gauri Khan owns a Production house. She has been accused of possessing drugs and was held at Berlin airport, though it has not been confirmed yet.

Mamta Kulkarni: This beautiful actress has also been accused of a drug racket which she denied in her interview. These accusations have not been confirmed yet.

Aryan Khan: Son of SRK, he recently has been arrested by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for a drug case during a Rave party on Goa bound Cruise liner. The drug abuse cases are not only limited to the Bollywood film industry, these are few names but there may be many more in different fields. The trend of taking drugs among youths is developing primarily due to a desire to experiment, not falling behind to fit in the society, emotional insecurity, loneliness. Some find it a means of relaxation and calm to their minds. Whatever the reason, there are several examples of how drug addiction is ruining people’s lives.
