Movie ’83: The Glorious Past relived
Recently released Sports thriller ’83 is a biographical drama based on the outstanding performance by Kapil Dev in the World Cup, 1983. The storyline revolves around the historic win of the Indian Cricket team over the two times World Champion West Indies cricket team. The movie brings forth the struggle, hard work, determination, and passion of fourteen cricketers not only to win the World cup but also to revive India’s honor and esteem in the world of Cricket.
The movie is directed by Kabir Khan, the team of producers includes Kabir Khan, Deepika Padukone, Vishnu Vardhan Induri, Sajid Nadiadwala. The storyline has been written by Kabir Khan, Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, and Vasan Bala. Bollywood stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Tahir Raj Bhasin are in lead roles. Deepika has played Kapil’s wife Romi’s character. Other roles have been played by Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinkar Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Adinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa, R Badree, and Pankaj Tripathi.
The stellar cast of Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev has undoubtedly won viewers’ hearts. He is said to have received special training from Kapil Dev before the shooting. The way Kapil delivered the ball, his actions, and his strokes all have been performed meticulously by Ranveer. The star cast took training and practiced under the guidance of former cricketers Balwinder Sandhu and Yashpal Sharma in the camp at Dharmshala Cricket Stadium.
Indians’ love for cricket needs no description as it is evident with the fact that every corner of by-lanes, parks can be seen buzzing with cricket talks during the season. It does no doubt that no other sport has become so popular in India as cricket is. The movie has lots of reasons to attract viewers to the big screen as it describes the determination of the Indian cricket team that made the nation believe in them.
In the beginning, the characters have been introduced to the viewers. At that point, it has also been shown that people underestimated their cricket team and you will get to know what would be the objective of the movie. All scenes and actions have been perfectly crafted to simulate the real tournament that happened in 1983. At times, you will find yourself so engrossed in the movie that it doesn’t seem a drama at all. The viewers may get excited and nervous at the same time when team India loses hope to win, at that point, the legendary Kapil dev created history with his magical batting that is unforgettable to date. The movie depicts various emotions that the team experiences throughout the tournament- joy, sorrow, disappointment, hope, defeat, and how they sailed through them. The team India takes a journey from being nothing to a team that could trust itself to defeat the mightiest men in the gentlemen’s game. ’83 is worth watching, not just for entertainment but to experience a national spirit that cricketers at that time possessed. The actors, directors, producers, scriptwriters, and all others deserve a round of applause.
