MG Charge: A Useful Venture for EV Users
In the world of electric vehicles, a new venture ‘MG Charge’ has been launched recently. It has been launched by MG Motors India to strengthen the Electric vehicle charging infrastructure in India. It aims to install 1,000 chargers in residential areas in 1,000 days across India which is said to be the first-ever initiative by an OEM in India. The smart chargers, initiated by MG will be helpful for current and future electric vehicles. Since the first electric vehicle was launched in December 2019, in a joint mission to build an ecosystem and to provide convenience to customers, MG Motors India has taken new steps to build charging infrastructure. To carry out the mission, MG Motors will collaborate with Electreefi, Echargebays, Resident Welfare Associations, and other partners.
How these chargers will work
These SMART chargers will be SIM-enabled and supported through a shareable Charger Management System. They are Type 2 chargers and will be supporting most of the leading current and future EVs. The Type 2 chargers are used for top-up charging, often used at home or work in residential apartments and business parks. The Type 2 charger will be most commonly used to charge modern-day electric cars and future electric vehicles. People can charge their cars overnight at varied prices. The price for charging will depend upon the car model or power output of the Type 2 charger. The charging points will have a built-in sim card that will allow people to keep checking their plugged-in vehicle charging activity via a Charger Management System.
MG Motor India President and Managing Director Rajeev Chaba said that with this initiative, we will now have a 6-way charging solution for our customers and provide increased assurance and confidence. According to MG Motor India, it will collaborate with RWA and provide end-to-end guidance, coordination, and support for the installation process, saving costs for the selected residential societies.
Benefits of EV Charging stations
- Electric vehicles are said to be low-cost in maintenance and fuel. In comparison to fuel vehicles, these vehicles are easier to maintain.
- EVs are eco-friendly as gas-powered and fuel-filled vehicles emit dangerous gases into the environment causing harmful air pollution.
- The EV charging points in apartments and residential areas will increase the value of the properties.
- As the world is striving hard to improve the climate. These initiatives will pave the way for communities around the world that work for mitigating potential damages.
- The SMART chargers are safe to use, and automatically check the connection between the car and the device before starting the charging activity.
- Timing can be optimized as per the price of the charging.
- Once the charging stations are connected to the charging network, people can easily find out which station is free to use.
In a SMART charging system, there is a data connection between an electric vehicle and a charging device and between the charging device and a charging operator, thus, the charging device is connected to a back-end service that enables monitoring, controlling, and restricting the use of the device.
