Get glowing with new skincare trend- Slugging
Among the latest beauty trends, Slugging has become the most popular one. One may wonder how this odd name could be related to beauty trends? Of course, the apprehension is quite genuine, but when one gets to know the benefits of this Korean skincare trend, one cannot escape without trying it. The objective of the K-beauty routine is to achieve dewy, flawless skin with its trend-focused innovative skincare products.
The slugging skincare trend involves applying a thick layer of an occlusive such as petroleum jelly as the last layer on the skin, which will retain moisture loss from the skin. The next morning you will find glowing and shining skin. The idea behind this is that Vaseline forms a coat on the skin and prevents transepidermal water loss and locks the moisture. It does not increase moisture or hydration to the skin but serves as a good occlusive for sealing moisture.
What skin types it suits
Although slugging is a simple non-chemical beauty solution but it is always good to seek advice from your doctor before applying it. Usually, it gives the best results for three skin types:
- Slugging is most beneficial for mature skin types as it protects skin from damage by forming a layer and shielding it. For mature skin type people, it should be their night time routine to apply it for regular skin repair.
- During winter season, some people may have really dry skin which results in dull and glow less face. The process of slugging gives a boost of hydration, replenish lost moisture and makes skin glowing and soft.
- The best use of slugging care routine is for skin with inflammatory conditions like eczema. These skin condition can make skin damaged and scaly. These skin types need regular routine of slugging with a deep moisturizer or nourishing cream prior to application of petroleum jelly.
How to do it?
- The method of slugging is a simple process- First, double cleanse your face before starting this skin care routine.
- After that apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly/balm all over your face.
- Leave it for overnight.
- Next morning wash it off with a regular cleanser.
One thing to be noted is that if one has dry, sensitive, or eczematous skin, slugging can be done up to three times a week. If one has normal to oily skin, it should be done once a week or even less or if needed.
In the world of beauty care routines, The Korean and Japanese beauty trends mainly involve skin hydration and sun protection but there is a minor difference between these two, as Japanese beauty focuses on minimalist routines with simple products whereas Korean beauty focuses on innovative skincare products.
Apart from providing intense moisturization to your skin, slugging has few other benefits as well, as- it forms a protective barrier, promotes repair for damaged skin, offers hydration to dry, flaky, and dull skin delays the sign of aging by giving a firm, youthful look to the skin.
