Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission: Reformation in the healthcare system in India
In a row of the digital initiative taken by the government across various sectors, PM Modi has launched Ayushman Bharat digital mission. Earlier, the pilot project of the Ayushman Bharat Digital mission was announced on August 15, 2020, from the Red Fort. Currently, the mission has been implemented in six Union Territories. Similar to other initiatives like Jan Dhan, Aadhar card, and other initiatives, this mission will also bring tremendous change in the reformation in people’s welfare.
What is Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission
It is an online platform that will deal with data, information, health records, and infrastructure of the healthcare system. All data, information about the patients will remain confidential, the personal information will be kept private. The health records and personal information will be accessed only after the patient has consented. The objective of the mission is to eliminate hassles in the provision of medical facilities to people of different classes. It will benefit citizens with the modern healthcare system, provide access to health records of citizens and healthcare professionals, and facilitate private healthcare participation in the mission.
The key features of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission are- health ID for every citizen, Healthcare Professionals Registry (HPR), and Healthcare Facilities Registries (HFR)
Health ID: People will be provided with a Health ID. The person needs to create a health ID by self-registration. It will include the person’s identification and health account. Within this ID, the person’s health records will be kept which can be accessed or shared only on his/her consent. Since all records will be stored digitally, there will be no need of repeating tests and procedures. It will create a standard healthcare system for everyone.
Healthcare Professional Registry (HPR): It includes information about registered nurses, doctors, paramedics regarding their qualifications, experience, and relevant details.
Healthcare Facilities registry (HFR): It includes information about private and public healthcare facilities in modern as well as traditional systems of medicine. It will enhance collaboration among doctors, hospitals, and different healthcare providers and will ease the process of doing business among them.
Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission Sandbox: It will act as a framework for product testing and technology to help organizations, private players who intend to be a part of the National Digital Health Ecosystem. They can become Healthcare information providers or Health information users or participate in the Ayushman Bharat Digital mission. The nationwide launch of this scheme comes in line with the National Health Authority celebrating the third anniversary of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). On the occasion, the PM mentioned that India has such a big digital infrastructure that no other country in the world has, with 130 crore Aadhar card numbers, 118 crore mobile subscribers, 80 crore internet users, and about 43 crores Jan Dhan bank accounts. The digitized infrastructure implemented in various sectors from Ration to administration is making processes fast and transparent for people.PM also emphasized the fact that diseases and illness put families into extreme poverty so these healthcare schemes are a big investment in the present and future of the country.
