Experience Wildlife Among Astounding Nature in Kaziranga

Think about a place where one can see the most endangered species closely in the most pristine natural surroundings. Among such places are Kaziranga National Park, spread across the area of 430 square kilometers in the northeastern part of India, in the district of Golaghat and Nagaon in Assam. It was declared as a World Heritage Site in 1985 due to its unique feature of mesmerizing natural beauty and wildlife.

The area still retains its distinctive feature as it remains less penetrated by human beings. In 2006, the Indian Government declared it as a Tiger reserve as it contains a high density of tigers, such as royal Bengal tigers.

The Park is a natural habitat for five wild animals mainly –Asiatic elephants, one-horned Rhinoceros, Royal Bengal Tigers, Wild Buffalos, and the Swamp Deer.  the Swamp deer, apart from them, this park is home to Sloth Bear, Leopards, Hog Deer, Wild Boar, Hog Badger, Golder Jackal Bengal Fox, etc., It is also a Birdlife reserve as there are 96 species of wetland birds are found.

Kaziranga park is divided into four tourism zones, which are replete with dense forests, distinguished flora and fauna, tea gardens, large grasslands, and picturesque views.

  • The entry gate of the central zone is in the small town of Kohora where people can enjoy both jeep safari and elephant safari.    
  • The Western Safari Zone is the most popular zone among tourists as people get an opportunity to have a closer sight of a one-horned Rhino. Both elephant and jeep safari are available at the Bagori tourism office.
  • The eastern zone provides a facility for jeep safari and boat safari to experience wildlife around the area and the water bodies. The entry gate is in the small town of Agaratoli where the jeep safari starts.
  • The Burapahar zone starts from Rhino land park and the entry gate is in Ghorakati village. The major attractions of this area are trekking on the selected route, bird seeing, and witnessing the beautiful ambiance of nature.

The jeep safari most convenient and affordable transport to explore the hidden beauty of nature and meet with rare species of animals. The jeep safari duration is 2 hours and the charges are between Rs 3,500 to Rs 4, 500.

The elephant safari gives you an exotic experience of getting to know nature and animals. The start time is 05:00 am, the seats are limited in number so it is better to get it booked in advance.  

The best time to visit Kaziranga National Park is between November to April. The summers start from April to May which is extremely hot and the monsoon starts from June to September when sometimes the area gets flooded. Winters start from November to February when the weather is dry and mild, an ideal time to visit Kaziranga National Park.
