India’s Medal galore at Tokyo Paralympic 2021

Tokyo Paralympic 2020 concluded on September 5, 2021, with the unforgettable achievements of Indian athletes. It had been rescheduled to August 2021, started on 24th August 2021, and concluded on 5th August 2021, in a short period, the athletes have scripted history with bagging 19 medals.

Avani Lekhara has made history in the Women’s 10-meter Air Rifle shooting in Tokyo Paralympic. Born in Rajasthan, this 19-year-old girl met with an accident that damaged her spinal cord.

Sumit Antil broke his record in the Men’s Javelin F64 category with a throw of 68.88m and bagged gold. He was born in 1998 in Haryana.

Pramod Bhagat bagged Gold in Badminton after a 45 minutes final. Bhagat suffered from Polio, very proudly possesses 45 international medals.

Krishna Nagar, who hails from Rajasthan, bagged a gold medal on the last day. He defeated Hong Kong in the men’s singles SH6 class final.

Manish Narwal won Gold in shooting by making a shot of total 218.2. He hails from Faridabad, Haryana, has an impairment in his right hand.

Devendra Jhajharia The two-time gold-winning Javelin throw veteran, caught silver this time. He was born in 1981 in Churu district in Rajasthan,

Yogesh Kathunia won the silver medal in the Discus throw by doing his best in the last attempt 44.38m. The 24-year-old is a B. Com graduate from Delhi and belongs to an Army family.

Bhavinben Patel won Silver in the women’s single Table Tennis class 4 final on August 29.

Singhraj Adana succeeded to get silver in P4 mixed 50m air pistol SH1. He suffered from polio-impaired lower limbs. He also got a bronze in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1.

Nishad Kumar clinched the silver medal in the men’s High Jump T47 event with an Asian record effort of 2.06m. Born in Una Himachal Pradesh, Nishad lost his hand in an accident.

Mariyappan Thangavelu succeeded in grabbing a silver in the men’s high jump T42. He won a gold medal in Rio five years ago. He suffers from a permanent leg disability.

Praveen Kumar bagged silver in the Men’s High Jump T64 classification in 2.07m. Praveen is a Noida resident and the youngest medal winner.

Tokyo Paralympic 2020

Suhas Yathiraj got silver in men’s singles SL4. He is an IAS officer, had been a two-time world champion. Suhas has an impairment in one ankle.

Sundar Singh Gurjar added another medal to India’s medal-winning journey with a bronze in his 62.26m Javelin throw. Born in 1996, in Karauli Rajasthan, he was also awarded Arjun Award for Para-athletics.

Sharad Kumar won Bronze with an effort of 1.83m men’s high jump T42. Sharad belongs to Patna, Bihar, and is a two-time Asian Para gold-medalist.

Avani Lekhara won the second medal with bronze in women’s 50m rifles, finished with 445.9 points.

Harvinder Singh succeeded in bagging the Bronze medal in Recurve archer. Harvinder hails from Haryana, pursuing studies at Punjab University. ManojSarkar won Bronze in men’s singles SL3 Badminton by defeating Japan.  Sarkar contracted Polio when he was one year old and started playing Badminton from the age of five.
